Treasured Memories

There is no greater gift we can give our loved ones than the stories of our lives.

What is a Personal History? A Personal History tells the stories behind the facts of our lives and animates the family tree. By saving our stories, in whatever form we can, we create a legacy for our families, make history come alive, increases our own appreciation for the paths our lives have taken, and ensure that our lives will not be forgotten. Saving lives - whether your own or that of an elder in your family or community - is what Personal History is all about.

The Story of How We Met......

Through a personal interview, narrative poems and short stories are created from the story of how you met, when you fell in love, how you became engaged. These poems can then be read at a wedding ceremony, printed as a gift for family members, and entered into your family album as a keepsake.

A Life Path Project

This "Life Path"  poster shows the path of Elena's life, starting with her birthday through high school, her marriage, singing career, birth of her children, important vacation trips and the death of her husband. It was created with Elena's input, drawing and with the help of her family. Elena has Alzheimer's disease and is in a nursing home. This poster is an illustration of her great life, career and the family she raised. It is hung on the wall in her room at the nursing home, for all who enter the room to see. Her life, even though she can't remember much, is shared with everyone through this poster.

Hand Castings

While two family members (Mom & Dad, Mother & Daughter, etc.) are holding hands, a mold is created, taken back to our studio where “Precious Stone” is poured into the mold and a beautiful replica of family members hands is created to be put in an honorable place in your home.

SAMPLE  NARRATIVE POEMS:

Dating Albert

I met my husband, Albert, through neighbors

Who lived across the street.

One of their friends was Albert –

They knew each other from Germany .

We started dating shortly after we met.

He was a wonderful man.

Albert had another girlfriend before me.

They had just broken up when we started dating.

She wouldn’t marry him because

He was not Catholic.

When she heard we were dating,

She came back to him.

He was all confused.

I told him we would break up

So he could think about it.

He decided to take a cruise Germany to

Visit his family and think.

He had no job at the time.

I went with friends to see him off on the ship.

From the dock, I waved good-bye to him

As the ship sailed off.

Later, I got a letter from him saying

“What a fool I was to let you go.

If I could swim,

I would have jumped off the ship

To come back and be with you.”

He asked me to come to Germany

And meet his family.

So I went and

We got engaged in Germany .

Albert was a good father, good provider and

A wonderful man.

I was lucky to have married him.

Meeting Free Love

When I was young, I was a wall flower.

Didn’t have many boyfriends.

I met Freeman at a birthday dinner party.

Margretta, a friend at school and Freeman’s sister,

Invited me to go.

The purpose of the party was to introduce

Freeman’s brother, Hamilton, to new women.

I sat across from Freeman at dinner.

After that, he came to visit me and

We started going out.

He used to bring his brother with him to visit me.

I think he did that because he was shy or something.

We went out to nightclubs together.

A while later, at a piano bar on

Montague Street in Brooklyn ,

He told me he loved me.

We dated for one year before we married.

We never fought or argued.

At one point, Freeman wasn’t sure he’d want to marry.

He felt because he would be a doctor,

He might die young of a disease.

During his time of indecision,

I went on a trip to Mexico

With my Aunt and Uncle.

I brought Freeman’s photo with me and

Slept with it under my pillow every night.

At this point, I knew I loved him.

Sometime along the way,

We just knew we would marry.

He was the best guy I ever met.

MY SOUL MATE

Meme was my soul mate.

Her name was Marie, but I called her Meme.

You know, like me, me, me……..

She used to call me Greek -

People in stores would always laugh

When they heard her call me that.

I don’t know if she knew my real name.

We met in grade school.

She was 14 and I was 15 when we started dating.

Meme was my soul mate.

I never knew another girlfriend and

She never knew another boyfriend.

Meme lived right down the street from me.

She latched on to me at age 14 and

Wasn’t gonna let anybody else get me.

I was 21 and she was 20 when we got married.

I could take you to my house anytime of the day and

You could eat off the floor.

That’s how immaculate she was.

She learned that from her spotless mom.

She still had a 24 inch waist after having three sons.

Meme didn’t work out – it was just her energy and

Taking care of her flower garden.

Daisies were her favorite.

If something had to be done, it had to be done now.

She had so much energy, I’d get tired just watching her.

“If you see something you want, just buy it” she would say.

That was her philosophy.

She passed on when she was 57 years old.

My sons used to say

“Dad, why don’t you go out to dinner with a lady friend sometime?”

But I was never interested.

I had my soul mate and I am content with that.

I’m ready to take a walk to the park

To meet my lovely Meme and

Take the stroll to heaven together.

I have no doubt she will be waiting for me there

When I pass away.
