Creative Movement & Writing for Children

 Grades 1 - 6

Creative Movement & Writing

Creative Movement & Writing classes for grades 1 - 6 are fun, expressive and educational!  Children will be challenged to create their own short stories under the guidance of Ms. Rosano using different themes for their stories.  Children have created monster stories, alien stories, creatures from beneath the sea stories, stories from the jungles of Africa and the rainforests of South America in Ms. Rosano's classes.  The class starts with some movement exercises to feel our story characters, then moves on to writing exercises.  When the stories are finished, the children then create their own story illustrations.

CLASSES
Offered to Grades 1 - 6:

1. Monster Class: We create our monsters with our movements, then write a story called “Monster Cafe” which includes making up a yummie menu for the Monster Cafe. After this, we draw our monsters.

2. Outer Space Class: We move to the music of the Twilight Zone, write acrostic outer space poems and create an alien sculpture creature.

3. Jungle Class: We do movement warm-ups related to the jungle and find our animal allies. We write a story about our animal allies and draw a
fantastic jungle scene.

4. Ocean Class: We dance as our ocean creatures inside our imagined aquarium, play the silly sentence game and make an underwater scene.

5. Rock and Roll Class: We play our imagined instruments to music and do some silly 60’s dances, then write a rock and roll poem using a rhyming “word collection” created by the class. We then create our own CD covers for an imagined rock and roll group.

Expressive arts uses various arts - dance & movement, drawing, painting, music, poetry, puppetry, sound and meditation - in a supportive setting to facilitate growth and healing.  It is a process of discovering ourselves through any art form that comes from an emotional depth.  When using the arts for self-healing, we are not concerned with the beauty of the visual art, the grammar and style of writing, or the harmonic flow of a song.  We use the arts to let go, to express and to release.  The use of imagery and non-verbal modes allows the participant an alternate path for self-exploration and communication.  The arts are potent media in which to discover, experience and accept unknown aspects of the self.
